How to Monetize a YouTube Channel in 2023

In 2023, there are several ways to monetize a YouTube channel. Here are some of the common options:

1/ YouTube Partner Program

To be eligible for this program, your channel must meet the qualification criteria specified by YouTube, such as obtaining 4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months and a minimum of 1,000 subscribers. As a partner, you can enable monetization on your videos and earn money from ads shown before or during your videos.

2/Sponsorship and brand partnerships:

If your channel has an engaged audience, you can work with brands to promote their products or services in your videos for free. This can take the form of a direct mention, product placement, or sponsored review.

3/ Memberships and channel subscriptions:

YouTube offers a channel membership program called "Member Channels". Viewers can pay a monthly amount to become a member of your channel and get exclusive benefits like badges, custom emojis, members-only content, and more.

4/Super Cat and Super Stickers:

These features allow viewers to pay to highlight their comments during live streams or to submit special stickers. Creators receive a portion of the revenue generated from these interactions.

5/Sales of products and goods:

if you have developed a personal brand or merchandise, you can sell them directly to your audience via affiliate links, an online store or partnerships with e-commerce sites.

6/ Crowdfunding:

You can use crowdfunding platforms like Patreon, Tipeee or Ko-fi to allow your fans to support you financially in exchange for exclusive benefits, such as access to exclusive content or direct interactions with you.

7/Sponsored content:

Apart from brand partnerships, you can associate companies or brands to create sponsored content. This can take the form of dedicated videos, sponsored series or special collaborations.

8/Affiliate programs:

You may join affiliate programs, such as the Amazon Partner Program, to recommend products or services in your videos and receive a commission on sales generated from your affiliate privileges.

It is important to note that some of these options may be subject to specific conditions and rules, so it is recommended to consult the YouTube monetization policies and the conditions of the platforms or programs in which you may be able to participate.

YouTube between creators and advertisers

The year 2017 and early 2018, YouTube has made many changes to improve the image of the platform and give it more credibility. Remember, this occurred as a result of the crisis he had with advertisers. Having noticed that their ads appeared on their content that seemed inappropriate, they froze or canceled their orders.

First, YouTube began as a verification chain that led him to conclude in those broadcasting inappropriate content, violate the Community Guidelines or infringe copyright.

Next, a first change of the eligibility criteria to the Partner Program was decided (10,000 views) then a second (1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of viewing, during the last 12 months). Many creators met the new criteria but are not yet admitted to the Partner Program, the audit completion date being postponed several times.

The end of June 2018 was set recently to make decisions on the majority of chains whose application is pending. It seems that YouTube will not only of the criteria, but will go up to check the contents used to have fulfilled the required conditions.

After these important changes and the consequences that have ensued, opinions differ. The authors negative opinions see it: a purge within the platform to keep only the main channels, a significant decrease in revenues, an obstacle to freedom of expression, exaggerated obedience to the dictates of advertisers. Authors of positive ratings see it: a purge within the platform to keep only the true creators, a moralizing content, likely increased revenues.
The one and the other, however, believe that YouTube has given more importance to advertisers than on creators.

YouTube managers did not remain insensitive to this fact. A series of measures are taken, these days, to improve the conditions of creators and other open creative horizons and other revenue sources that have no direct relationship with advertisers: enlargement the paid subscription, Super Cat, the Ticket, from the sale of merchandise and other…

After the hard experience with advertisers during the 2017 crisis, YouTube seems to turn, after the truce, to creators to make it a more financially independent community and no longer rely entirely on conventional advertising.

How to use free images of copyright?

With the advance of technology and simplified access to photography, the image has become a way of inevitable expression. You can take pictures anywhere, any time. With all these benefits, it happens that you remain powerless before a pressing need to express, on your own, the complexity of an idea or the intensity of a feeling. This is why you are forced to resort to the works of others.

By conscience or fear of being sued, you decide to avoid images with copyright and stay within the law.

Why do you need these images?

—You can use it to beautify your site and give it an attractive look.
—Integrate still images during editing your videos, such as securities backgrounds and transitions.
—To give a taste to your images illustrating the texts corresponding to your subjects.

—Enrich your photo collection.

How to find free images of copyright?

Open the Google search engine, type the search terms of your subject, being accurate, then choose “Images” option.

A significant number of images are relevant to your search appears.
To find those free copyright, click “Tools” and then “use rights”.

Go to the drop-down menu in this section, you get six options:

1) Not filtered by license:
The authors of these images were not clear whether the reuse of their works is permitted or not. In this case, nothing is certain, you might receive a claim for infringement of copyright.
2) Labeled for reuse with modification:
As is clearly mentioned, you can use this image freely, and even make changes.
3) labeled for reuse:
You can reuse the image, but without making any changes.
4) Labeled for noncommercial reuse with modification :
In this case, use for commercial purposes is not allowed.
5) Labeled noncommercial reuse:
The modification or use for commercial purposes is allowed.

In conclusion, option 2 is most favorable.

There are several ways to search for images on specialized sites, we opted here for the simplest.

Copyright strike, what to do?

You receive a copyright strike. What does it mean? It means that you put online content that is not yours, which is not free of rights or without authorization. What you risk? The relevant video is deleted and you risk the closure of the channel if you accumulate three strikes.
What to do when you receive strike? First, do not consider yourself a victim of a conspiracy; this happens, but it’s still in the area of the exception. Avoid “why me” and do not delete your video from the Video Manager to keep your chance to rehabilitate intact.

Then, get into the details of the warning the channel name or the content owner and try to contact him, you have to try everything. How do you contact? Once you’re on the alleged owner of the channel, click the name of the channel (below one of his videos), then click Properties, you will find the information that displays a box to write your message. You can also contact this in the comments on his videos just to advise you without spreading on the details, because comments are public. Finally, it is also possible to contact the private, direct discussion on its pages on social networks related to its channel.

What to ask? Request the withdrawal of claims for violations of copyright explaining the reasons for using the content, and promising to remove yourselves the video once restored by YouTube. If he accepts, he will have a checkbox on the “withdrawal” of its Video Manager.

In conclusion, if the content subject of the complaint does not belong to you, and therefore you cannot challenge it; If your withdrawal request is denied, what to do?
You then need to check other videos in your channel and delete those involving the questionable content, not upload content that you created yourself or that you have permission, or royalty free. And this, at least during the 90 days, period after which automatically extinguishes a copyright strike.

Note that a copyright strike is completely different from a “Content ID”.

How to use a free video rights?

You do not have the means or the passion or patience to create a video, but you can make an improvement to an existing work, make your taste or present to others in another different way with your footprint; you want to express yourself with ready-made images made by others that fit your needs. You are simply communicating by organizing content by subjects, by directly intervening to explain at the hearing your ideas by using content taken online. You create a YouTube channel for it, but you expose yourself to copyright strike  and Content ID claims. Do not be discouraged, you can achieve your dream by uploading videos under Creative Commons licenses.

First, it is best to have some knowledge, if that summary, the operation of Creative Commons.

There are authors or creators that want their content to be shared as widely as possible, and even reused under certain conditions. They then propose to the Creative Commons; a platform that is designed for the collection of these products, and to benefit other users without infringement of copyright.

Hundreds of millions of videos, images, writing and other works are then classified under Creative Commons licenses, according to the conditions of their true authors. Here are the details of this ranking:

1) The CC BY license allows you to modify the content and use it for commercial purposes, citing the name of its author.

2) CC BY-SA license allows you to modify the content and use it for commercial purposes, citing the name of its author. On top of that the resulting works of the changes need to be shared with others in the same conditions that you have benefited from.

3) CC BY-ND license allows you to redistribute the work for profit or commercial purposes, without any modifications. It will be broadcast in its entirety by attributing to the author and quoting his name.

4) CC BY-NC license allows you to modify the work, but do not use it for commercial purposes. The author’s name should be cited, but the new work can be distributed without being subject to the same conditions (that you have benefited from.)

5) CC BY-NC-SA license allows you to modify the work, but do not use it for commercial purposes. The author’s name should be cited, and the new work is distributed under the same conditions.

6) CC BY-NC-ND license only allows you to download and share the work, citing the name of its author. (No change, no use for commercial purposes.)

Also note that there is also the CC0 code indicating the works in the public domain.

Do not panic if there is confusion choose the least restrictive license to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Where is the content?

You go to the Creative Commons search site, here:

Choose the platform that you should, for example YouTube, and type what you are looking at the top right. A list of videos related to your search appears, choose the one that meets your needs, open it, go to its description you will find the words Creative Commons Attribution license (reuse allowed).”

So you are on the right voice, use it as you wish, YouTube videos are under a CC BY license (you can change it, use it for commercial purposes, citing the name of the author of the original version).

By downloading the content of other sites to check the classification of the license to be obeyed.

Vidéo not suitable for most advertisers

Shortly after posting your video, you can see that the indicator of monetization is turned yellow displaying the words “Not suitable for most advertisers, requested verification”. Obviously, you are frustrated to see your video private advertising ad when it is more likely to have a lot of views, not least by the fact of its novelty.

Looking for the causes of the ranking of your content in this category, you will not find. You suspect some pictures, you can imagine a few passages; but all are only assumptions, as the reason has not been served by YouTube.

Fortunately, you have the words “Request verification” as the only remedy. Since the first decision was made following detection by a robot, a manual review will be made on your request, provided that your video reaches thousand views during the last seven days.

If this condition is met, you will have a response advising you that your video is suitable for all advertisers or you confirming the first decision while allowing you to appeal.

If your video is accepted, it seems that the fact of you having private ads during the time of the audit focused you harm. Because, usually, a video harvest more views to its output. No one knows if YouTube performs compensation by increasing his suggestion, for example.

For older footage deemed “not suitable for most advertisers’ following a verification process that occurs after months or years of monetization, the words” requested verification” may there forever, the threshold of a thousand views during the last seven days is often not achieved.
To find these videos for which no notification is sent to you, open the Video Manager, on the right drop down menu navigate to the “limited or videos without ads” list.

YouTube receives a lot of videos daily, from all continents, with different cultures, sometimes opposed. Sometimes the good in each is the evil in others; the beauty is ugliness … that’s why the robot which has been inculcated universal values without the specifics of each culture may be far off, and human intervention is required to address it on land or power money and that of creation clash.

A question? By creating video, do you think that you are self-censoring? Feel less free than before?

Content ID claims, what to do?

You receive a “Content ID” claim on one of your uploaded videos on YouTube. It means that you probably used a content that is not yours, and whose owner is protected by the Content ID system that automatically detects copies uploaded by other users.
The content found on your video may be a small video clip, music, a sound effect … or just the whole video.
What to do in this case? First, do not panic, because there is nothing untoward in a “Content ID” claim, and usually it is not a source of negative impact on your YouTube channel.

Your action depends on the rules applied by the owner of embedded content in your video.
A) If his goal is to monetize its content, you have three choices:
1) Keep the video on your channel and do nothing if you agree that any advertising revenue will be paid to him. This choice is usually made by small channels looking to expand and have more content and subscribers.
2) Keep the video on your channel and negotiate with the owner to share in income or even a permanent partnership for other content put online its own. This choice is usually made by large channels that have a lot of subscribers, and can reach areas inaccessible to the same owner of the original content.
3) Challenge the claim if you are certain that this is an error, you have the use of such content authorization, or that the claimed content in the public domain.
4) Delete any video simply for reasons specific to you, or adjust in a way that it is no longer claimed.

B) The content owner decides to block the claimed content:
Your video is blocked, but without copyright strike on your channel, it is only visible to you, it is better to remove it from your Video Manager.

C) The owner opts for the rule of monitoring: it has the ability to track video statistics through its content management system without any requirements. The decision to make in this case up to you.

It should be noted that you, as the owner of the content, can change your mind at any time.
